Ellen M. Hemmerlein

Biography

Ellen M. Hemmerlein serves as Senior University Counsel for Real Estate and Business Transactions at Syracuse University. In this role, she provides comprehensive legal counsel on a broad range of matters including real estate acquisitions and dispositions, construction, leasing, franchise agreements, procurement, contracting, and corporate governance. She also advises on affiliated entities and subsidiary operations, and collaborates with executive leadership and cross-campus departments to assess legal risks and support the execution of strategic priorities. Ellen played a key role in the build-out of Syracuse University's inaugural in-house legal department and the centralization of its legal functions. Prior to joining the University, she served as Staff Attorney at Carrols Restaurant Group, Inc., where she managed contracts, real estate matters, franchising, litigation, and employment matters across multiple restaurant brands.

Ellen earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law and her B.A. in Biology from LeMoyne College.
