Lauren S. Owens

Biography

Lauren Sang-Hee Owens is an accomplished attorney with over a decade of experience in federal and state criminal defense, civil litigation, and military law. Lauren joined Syracuse University Counsel's Office in 2026 as an Associate General Counsel where she is responsible for advising and supporting University clients on matters ranging from internal compliance to pending or threatened litigation. In this capacity, Lauren plays an active role in Title VI, VII, and IX compliance and policy development at the University. She also provides legal advice related to employment disputes, labor relations, and works with all administrative and academic units of the institution.

Prior to joining the Office of University Counsel, Lauren served as Attorney-Advisor at the United States Army's Watervliet Arsenal, where she advised senior leadership on matters including labor and employment, ethics, and collective bargaining. She concurrently holds the rank of Captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the United States Army Reserve, serving as Trial Counsel and advising on military justice, administrative law, and ethics. She is admitted to practice in New York and Massachusetts, as well as multiple federal district courts and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Prior to her government service, Lauren was an Associate Attorney at Dreyer Boyajian LLP, a prominent Albany-based law firm, where she defended individuals and corporations in complex federal and state criminal matters and litigated civil cases across multiple jurisdictions. A graduate of Albany Law School, Lauren has been repeatedly recognized as a Super Lawyers selectee in White Collar Criminal Defense and enjoys giving back to the legal community through speaking engagements and bar association service.
